1. Application in AC circuit



If applied to an AC circuit, it is usually bi-directional due to voltage surges from both directions. The following figure is an application example of bidirectional TVS in AC circuit. Here, TVS diode is used to effectively suppress the impact pulse brought by the power grid. When the voltage is overvoltage, vrmw will rise to the breakdown voltage and be broken down. In this case, the breakdown current will occur. Once the peak value of iPP is reached, the voltage at both ends will be clamped below VC. This protects the rear circuit, including rectifier bridge, capacitor and rear components.



2. Application in DC circuit



In terms of DC, TVS diode can also be unidirectional, TVS and output load can be connected in parallel, and the load can be DC power supply or other output systems. It should be noted that the zui large reverse working voltage of TVS tube is at least 1.2 times of the circuit input voltage, so the circuit is more reliable.
